Two of England's brightest stars have signed for Chelsea as Anita Asante and Lianne Sanderson have made the switch to the Blues after a number of successful seasons at Arsenal where the duo won both domestic and European honours.
Asante and Sanderson were unveiled to the media on at the Chelsea Football Club Training Ground in Cobham this week and will already be looking forward to potential home debuts for the club against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
At just 20, Sanderson is highly regarded having made her England debut in 2007 the forward has already bagged two goals for her country and scored 40 goals in 41 games in 2006/2007 and an incredible 52 goals in 38 games last season. The player received a special award from the PFA for her achievements and is looking to replicate her record-breaking form for the Blues.
Asante is an experienced defender and midfielder who has won 31 caps for England and has played in the UEFA Cup Final, European Championships and World Cup. The strong-tackling 23-year-old brings with her a wealth of experience at the highest level and will be a huge asset to Chelsea Ladies team, which finished fifth in the Premier League last season.
Asante said: "When I heard Chelsea were interested there was no question that they were the only club that I wanted to join. I can't wait to meet up with the rest of the girls and get the season started. There are so many good players here that it can only help improve my game and I hope I can make a positive contribution to the squad."
Sanderson also spoke of her ambitions: "I'm a young player and being at Chelsea can only help me develop. We've a great mix of youth and experience and I think it won't be long before we are up there with the best women's teams in the country.
